Timberland's sustainable initiatives

As a brand, sustainability is a core value here at Timberland, and we are committed to reducing our environmental impact. One way we achieve this is by using sustainable materials in our products. We prioritise eco-friendly leather that is sourced from tanneries that meet the Leather Working Group's environmental standards, as well as leather that is produced using vegetable tanning processes. This allows us to create a more sustainable and eco-friendly leather, as vegetable tanning uses natural materials instead of harmful chemicals.

In addition to leather, we also focus on using recycled and bio-based materials. Our "ReBottle" campaign is a flagship initiative where we collect used plastic bottles and transform them into footwear components, such as lining and laces. This not only reduces plastic waste but also promotes a circular economy, where materials are recycled and repurposed instead of ending up in landfills. This initiative has already transformed millions of plastic bottles into sustainable footwear, making a significant positive impact on the environment.

Rebotl Plastic technology. Turning used plastic bottles into footwear components

We are dedicated to using eco-friendly materials in our boots, such as recycled leather, organic cotton, and recycled PET plastic, to reduce our environmental footprint. By incorporating sustainable materials into our footwear, we actively promote responsible sourcing and reduce the demand for new materials, helping to conserve natural resources and minimise our overall environmental impact.

To measure and improve our environmental performance, we have developed a Green Index, which assesses various factors of our products' lifecycle, such as material sourcing, manufacturing processes, and product end-of-life options. This allows us to identify areas where we can improve our sustainability and work towards creating even more sustainable footwear.

As part of our commitment to combating climate change, we have set ambitious climate positive goals to reduce our carbon emissions. We are actively working to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, increase the use of renewable energy in our operations, invest in carbon offset projects, and explore innovative ways to further reduce our carbon footprint. This demonstrates our dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Sustainable clothing made from sustainable materials

We also believe in engaging with local communities and promoting sustainable practices beyond our brand. We collaborate with various organisations and partners to support environmental conservation efforts, engage in tree planting initiatives, and promote sustainable agriculture. We also encourage our employees to participate in volunteer programs that promote sustainability and make a positive impact in their communities.

In addition to our commitment to eco-friendly leather and recycled materials, we are also exploring the use of innovative materials such as recycled plastic and bio-based materials. For example, some of our products feature uppers made from recycled plastic bottles, while others feature soles made from bio-based materials such as sugarcane. These materials not only reduce waste but also reduce our dependence on non-renewable resources.

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in the use of sustainable materials in our products. By using recycled, eco-friendly, and responsibly sourced materials, we are able to reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote a more sustainable future. As consumers, you can support our sustainability efforts by choosing products made with sustainable materials and supporting companies that prioritise sustainability. Together, we can work towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
